The Vocational Nursing Program is a self paced, fully online program designed to enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies related to enhancing the health and well-being of individuals and families, its specifically designed for California but applicants from other states are welcome if intending to undertake California Licensure.

Program Description

We are glad to announce that we offer a program that will help you transition to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse, commonly known as LVN. The equivalency method permits unlicensed individuals who have had extensive bedside nursing care experience, plus a limited amount of formal education, to demonstrate that they have acquired sufficient basic nursing knowledge and skills to be eligible for the licensure examination.  The equivalency method, requires the applicant to provide documentation of a minimum of  51 months of paid bedside nursing experience in an acute care setting and completion of a 54-theory-hour of Pharmacology Course. If the applicant has successfully completed the additional formal nursing education, that education may be substituted for some of the required bedside nursing experience. Other healthcare related professionals and nursing undergraduates may also qualify.

Program Eligibility

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid US social security number
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years working experience
  • 48 months medical/surgical nursing
  • 6 weeks maternity or genitourinary nursing
  • 6 weeks pediatric nursing

Program Objectives
Upon graduation the vocational nursing student will be eligible for application for licensure as an LVN and be able to:

  1. Provide safe, proficient and compassionate nursing care as a beginning practitioner applying selected principles and utilizing the nursing process and therapeutic communication skills.
  2. Exhibit responsibility in the practice of vocational nursing by adherence to ethical, moral and legal obligations as stated in the Vocational Nursing Practice Act.
  3. Acknowledge accountability for recognizing own limitations and refusing to perform tasks for which the graduate is not prepared.
  4. Function as an effective member of the health team under the direction of the registered nurse or physician.
  5. Assume responsibility for professional growth and recognize the need for continuing education.
  6. Interact with other health team members as a patient advocate
